Punjabi newspaper maker: a Gurmukhi page-proof workflow
For a Gurmukhi Punjabi newspaper, proofing the small marks matters as much as fitting the story. XLR8 Print supports Punjabi newspaper production. This guide focuses on Gurmukhi; publishers working in Shahmukhi should confirm their exact script and font workflow with the team before choosing a setup.

Start with a page from your own newsroom
Use a local report with names, a photo caption and a public notice. Include the smallest text you actually publish, so the first proof is a production test rather than a decorative sample.
Prepare the approved story, headline, byline, caption, image credit and edition date together. In XLR8, assemble the page, review the generated layout and make corrections before exporting. Newspaper generation assists production; an editor still approves facts, spelling and what belongs in the edition.
Three checks before you approve the page
Read bindi, tippi and addak clearly
Include words with these marks in the selected font and review them at print size. Do not assume a paragraph is correct simply because the main letter shapes look familiar in the editor.
Keep headline marks clear of adjacent lines
Check multi-line headlines and narrow captions for clipped vowel signs or crowded marks. Adjust the frame and line spacing before making a headline smaller than the rest of the page hierarchy allows.
Proof names and mixed-language adverts
Confirm people’s names with the approved copy, then separately check English names, prices and phone numbers in adverts. Compare those details again in the final PDF.
Build the paper. Build its reach. Build a stronger publishing business.
A publication does not stop at the printing press. XLR8 Print brings newspaper production, a news website service, and a billing system together—so the edition, its audience, and the business behind it can move forward as one.
The edition
Shape approved stories, photographs, and advertisements into editable pages, then review the edition before it goes to press.
The audience
Give the publication a credible digital home through our news website service, and stay present beyond the morning paper.
The business
Keep billing organised with a system built for the commercial work behind a newspaper, backed by the same team that supports your publication.
Read the PDF, not just the editor
Check names, numerals, photographs, adverts and page size again in the exported PDF. Send one representative page to your printer before producing a complete edition. Use the printer’s requested export settings; increasing a DPI number will not restore detail missing from a source image.
